About Storybook Science

Storybook Science embeds accurate scientific content into engaging children’s stories. Stories are a powerful way to put information into context and make it more memorable. Stories are already a huge part of children’s lives whether that is at home, as part of a bedtime routine or in the classroom. In education, stories are commonly used to teach about the English Language, historical figures in History and different cultures in Geography and Religious Studies. So isn’t it about time we learn about science through stories?

Most Storybook Science books are linked to the English National Curriculum, making it easier to find a story to slot into a lesson. All stories are available to order on Amazon. You can also find lots of free downloadable, printable resources and activities to accompany the stories.

Most books in schools regarding science topics are non-fiction. It’s refreshing to have fiction books to help children understand science topics.

About the Author – Clare

As a child I was always writing stories and poems. I always thought I would grow up to be an author and illustrator. However, at 16, whilst studying for my A Levels, I became more drawn to the sciences, Psychology in particular fascinated me. I realised I was also getting much better grades in STEM subjects so I changed my A Level subjects and eventually went to university to study Biology and Psychology.

For the last five years, I’ve been sharing my passion for STEM with young people around the country as an Outreach Officer. Recently, I have graduated from my MSc in Science Communication and Public Engagement for which I had been studying for part-time alongside work. For my dissertation I took an opportunity to combine my childhood dreams of writing with my enthusiasm for science and write 10 children’s science stories. Backed with extensive research, the stories all received overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents and teachers. Several asked that I continue to write stories to cover the complete science curriculum – and hence Storybook Science was born!
